सिडनी के भारतीय ऑस्ट्रेलियाई समुदाय पर नस्लीय हमलों की घटनाएँ लगातार बढ़ती जा रही हैं, जिससे न केवल समुदाय में भय का माहौल पैदा हो गया है बल्कि इन घटनाओं को लेकर सरकारी संस्थाओं की भूमिका पर भी गंभीर सवाल उठ रहे हैं।
फ़ेडरेशन ऑफ़ इंडियन एसोसिएशन्स ऑफ़ NSW (FIAN) ने इस बढ़ती हिंसा को “अस्वीकार्य, चिंताजनक और समुदाय को लक्षित करने वाला हेट क्राइम” बताते हुए तत्काल और कड़े कदम उठाने की माँग की है।
FIAN के अनुसार 14 नवंबर 2025 को पैरामैट्टा क्षेत्र में एक नस्लीय हिंसा की घटना हुई, जिसमें समुदाय के तीन सदस्यों पर थूका गया और उन्हें घूंसे मारे गए।
इनमें एक व्यक्ति अपनी पत्नी और छोटे बच्चे के साथ मौजूद था, जिससे परिवार में गहरा मानसिक आघात हुआ है।
दो पीड़ितों द्वारा की गई शिकायत के आधार पर पैरामैट्टा पुलिस ने आरोपी को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है।
संगठन का कहना है कि हालांकि आरोपी को पकड़ लिया गया है, लेकिन ऐसी घटनाएँ अब “बार-बार और लगातार” हो रही हैं।
FIAN के अध्यक्ष डॉ. यदु सिंह (Dr Yadu Singh) ने कहा:
“हमारे समुदाय के लोग लंबे समय से दुर्व्यवहार, गाली-गलौज, थूकने और हिंसा का सामना कर रहे हैं। कई लोग डर, हिचक या पुलिस पर भरोसे की कमी के कारण शिकायत नहीं करते। इससे अपराधियों का हौसला और बढ़ता है। यह स्थिति अब बेहद गंभीर हो चुकी है।”
उन्होंने कहा कि यह केवल कुछ isolated घटनाएँ नहीं, बल्कि एक बढ़ती प्रवृत्ति है जिसे हेट क्राइम की श्रेणी में देखा जाना चाहिए।
इससे कुछ दिन पहले 10 नवंबर 2025 को पैरामैट्टा शॉपिंग सेंटर में एक और नस्लीय हमला हुआ था।
पुलिस ने इसमें भी आरोपी को गिरफ्तार कर लिया था और उसकी जमानत खारिज कर दी गई।
समुदाय का कहना है कि इतने कम समय में लगातार दो हमले होना बेहद चिंताजनक संकेत हैं।
संगठन ने NSW सरकार और पुलिस से निम्नलिखित कदम तुरंत उठाने की अपील की है:
अधिकांश लोग डर के कारण आवाज नहीं उठाते, जिससे अपराधियों को सुरक्षा मिलती है।
डॉ. सिंह के अनुसार, “सरकार और प्रशासन की सक्रियता आज इस मुद्दे पर सबसे अधिक आवश्यक है।”
एसबीएस की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि भारतीयों पर होने वाली हिंसा:
केवल व्यक्तिगत नफ़रत का मामला नहीं,
बल्कि सामाजिक और राजनीतिक माहौल से प्रभावित,
और बढ़ते हुए ‘सिस्टमेटिक रेसिज़्म’ के संकेत हो सकते हैं।
रिसर्चर्स का कहना है कि राजनीतिक बयानबाज़ी और कुछ समूहों द्वारा फैलाए जाने वाले पूर्वाग्रह भी इन हमलों की पृष्ठभूमि में भूमिका निभाते हैं।
कई समुदाय सदस्यों ने कहा कि उन्हें:
देर रात बाहर निकलने में डर लगता है,
बच्चों को अकेले भेजने में संकोच है,
और यह हिंसा उनके मानसिक स्वास्थ्य को प्रभावित कर रही है।
सिडनी में भारतीयों की संख्या लगभग 3 लाख से अधिक है, और यह समुदाय शहर की विविधता का बड़ा हिस्सा है।
समुदाय नेताओं का कहना है कि सरकार की ओर से ठोस कदम उठाए जाने से लोगों का आत्मविश्वास वापस लौट सकता है।
Concerns are mounting within Sydney’s Indian Australian community following a series of racially motivated assaults that have escalated over recent months. The Federation of Indian Associations of NSW (FIAN) has condemned the incidents, calling them “unacceptable, alarming and indicative of targeted hate crimes.”
According to FIAN, the latest attack occurred on 14 November 2025 in the Parramatta area, where three Indian Australian community members were reportedly spat on and punched. One of the victims was accompanied by his wife and child, adding to the emotional trauma experienced by the family.
Two of the victims contacted police, leading to the swift arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
FIAN stated that while the arrest is a welcome step, such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent, creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety within the community.
FIAN President Dr Yadu Singh expressed deep concern about the pattern of violence:
“Our community members are being abused, spat on, and assaulted. Unfortunately, many do not come forward due to fear or hesitation. This only emboldens offenders. The situation has reached a critical and deeply disturbing point.”
Dr Singh emphasised that these are not isolated events but part of a concerning trend targeting Indian Australians, which should rightfully be classified as hate crimes.
Just days before this attack, another racially motivated assault took place at the Parramatta shopping centre on 10 November 2025.
The perpetrator in that case was also arrested, charged, and denied bail.
FIAN notes that two such serious incidents in quick succession highlight the urgent need for systemic intervention.
To ensure safety and restore confidence in law enforcement, the Federation of Indian Australian Associations (FIAN) has made the following appeals:
Lack of reporting allows offenders to continue without consequences.
Dr Singh stressed that community trust can only be restored through visible and decisive action.
As reported by SBS, experts argue that the surge in attacks may reflect a systemic and broader societal problem, not merely random incidents of individual prejudice.
Researchers note that:
Political rhetoric,
Rising xenophobia, and
Social marginalisation
may all be contributing factors behind the growing hostility faced by Indian Australians.
They warn that ignoring these patterns could lead to even more severe consequences in the future.
Members of the Indian Australian community—one of the largest immigrant populations in Sydney—say that:
They feel unsafe walking alone,
Parents are afraid to let children travel unaccompanied,
And racial hostility is affecting their mental well-being.
Many community leaders have stated that this is a defining moment for authorities to demonstrate their commitment to protecting multicultural Australia.
