पिछले चार वर्षों में 1 लाख से अधिक लोगों ने घरेलू हिंसा से बचने के लिए प्रति व्यक्ति $5000 तक की आर्थिक सहायता प्राप्त की है। अब यह सहायता योजना जुलाई से स्थायी रूप से लागू की जा रही है।
यह योजना सबसे पहले अक्टूबर 2021 में गठबंधन सरकार के दौरान 'एस्केपिंग वायलेंस पेमेंट' (Escaping Violence Payment) के नाम से दो वर्ष के लिए शुरू की गई थी। बाद में लेबर सरकार ने इसे विस्तार देते हुए अब स्थायी रूप से लागू करने की घोषणा की है। स्थायी योजना का नाम 'लीविंग वायलेंस प्रोग्राम' (Leaving Violence Program) रखा गया है।
इस योजना के तहत उन महिलाओं और व्यक्तियों को वित्तीय मदद दी जाती है जो हिंसात्मक रिश्तों से बाहर निकलने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। इसमें आवास, आवश्यक सामान, परिवहन, और सुरक्षा से जुड़ी ज़रूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए धन दिया जाता है।
सोशल सर्विसेज मंत्री अमांडा रिशवर्थ ने कहा कि, "यह निर्णय पीड़ितों को आत्मनिर्भर बनाने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। कोई भी व्यक्ति हिंसा में रहने के लिए मजबूर न हो, इस सोच के साथ सरकार यह सहायता जारी रखेगी।"
अब तक इस योजना के तहत हजारों महिलाओं और उनके परिवारों को सुरक्षित स्थान पर पहुंचने और नए जीवन की शुरुआत करने में मदद मिली है। सरकार के अनुसार, यह एक मानवीय पहल है जो केवल आर्थिक सहायता नहीं बल्कि सुरक्षा और सम्मान के साथ जीवन जीने का अवसर भी प्रदान करती है।
लीविंग वायलेंस प्रोग्राम के स्थायी होने से अब ज्यादा लोग बिना किसी भय या संकोच के इस योजना का लाभ उठा सकेंगे। यह कदम ऑस्ट्रेलिया में घरेलू हिंसा के खिलाफ एक मजबूत संदेश के रूप में देखा जा रहा है।
More than 100,000 people have accessed up to $5000 in financial assistance to escape violent relationships over the past four years — and now, the support program will become a permanent part of Australia's social safety net.
Originally launched as a two-year trial in October 2021 under the former Coalition government, the Escaping Violence Payment program was extended by the Labor government and will now continue permanently under a new title — the Leaving Violence Program, starting from July.
The initiative provides financial support to individuals leaving violent domestic situations, helping them cover critical costs such as temporary housing, essential items, transport, and safety-related expenses. Each eligible recipient can receive up to $5000.
Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth said the program's continuation is a major step forward in addressing domestic and family violence. “No one should feel forced to stay in a violent relationship because of financial barriers,” she said. “This program helps give victims the means to start a new life with safety and dignity.”
Since its inception, the payment has been a lifeline for thousands of women and families, offering not just monetary support but a chance at rebuilding their lives away from fear and abuse.
With its permanent rollout from July 2025, the Leaving Violence Program is expected to reach even more survivors across Australia, reinforcing the government’s commitment to tackling domestic violence and supporting those most at risk.
